After 53 years, the New York Knicks have officially won an NBA Championship, beating the San Antonio Spurs. This was nothing short of revenge from the 1999 Championship that featured these two teams in the finals once before, but this time, the outcome was a little different.
For many families in East Brunswick, the New York Knicks is their team, regardless of state lines.
Junior Abigail Tattergrain said, “The New York Knicks have been a part of my family for decades, so this long-awaited win feels like my family finally won!”
The NBA Championship is played as best out of 7, but the Knicks only needed 5 games to win. They took home the victory in the 1st two, but lost the 3rd game, played in Madison Square Garden. However, the Knicks didn’t see this as total defeat, but rather motivation to improve, as they won the final two games. The Spurs consistently put up a good match against the Knicks, keeping the lead in almost every game, but the Knicks were relentless- making remarkable comebacks each and every time.
“After watching the New York Knicks, I realized that all you really needed was the power of friendship to make it through,” said Junior Kailynn DuRose.
After years of consistent support, despite bad players, and a losing streak, the Knicks showed the world why their fans will forever remain loyal to them; something Knicks fans never needed proof for.
This was not just a win for New York, but for the East Coast, and underdogs everywhere.
