This spring, the East Brunswick Girls Golf team won big. At GMC’s, the team was able to tie for first place with JP Stevens with an overall score of 345. In addition, they ended the season 2nd in the Red division, with a winning record of 7-3. It was thanks to the hard work of the athletes and their dedication throughout the season that they were able to pull off this feat. Sophomore Vivian D’Amato said, “I am very proud to be on the girls golf team, and proud of the effort my teammates put in to get 1st at GMCs.”

Their season kicked off with a win against Old Bridge, followed by wins against other GMC teams such as Sayreville and South Brunswick. In the beginning of May, the girls golf team also played in the NJSIAA state tournament. Together, they came in 5th place, with junior Tasneem Basrai scoring an impressive 92 for the team.

On Monday May 19th, the Bears headed to the Greater Middlesex County Tournament, one of their most important competitions of the year. Though the competition was fierce, East Brunswick was able to get first place through the collective efforts of its team members. Individually, East Brunswick won big as well: Dasha Patel scored a 79, which was the best individual score earned in the competition.

“Being on the high school golf team gave me a small group I can hang out and destress with after school,” said Senior Ella Chen. “It also helped teach me to continue to persevere even when I hit bad shots.” The girls golf team has not only  made an impact on school records, but also its members. With so much young talent on the team, it is exciting to see what these players will accomplish in the future.
