Girls Volleyball Dominates First Round of GMCs

The East Brunswick Girls Varsity Volleyball Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) tournament after defeating South Brunswick in a three-set match.


East Brunswick opened the match with confidence, and was able to secure the first set 25–21. The Bears demonstrated strong cohesion and composure, establishing control early through their energy and teamwork.


South Brunswick responded quickly in the second set. The two teams battled point for point in a tense back-and-forth, but South Brunswick ultimately won the set 26–24.The two teams were tied, forcing a decisive third set. 


Refusing to back down, East Brunswick regrouped and came out determined in the final set. The Bears took control early and never looked back, closing out the match 25-19 to secure the win. 


Although the match was tough the players still finished strong. Reflecting on their performance, Varsity player and Junior Zoe Holeman said, “We started off strong in the first set, we went back and forth with South Brunswick for a tough loss in the second but we were able to pull through in the third set.”


For the players, the win was more than just advancing in the tournament: it was a boost of confidence and a celebration of teamwork. Varsity player and junior Shipra Patil shared her excitement about the win: “I love how the team bonded so perfectly on and off the court. The energy was great and we all were so excited to win our first round of GMCs.” The Bears are carrying that positive energy into the GMC quarterfinals, ready to continue their strong postseason run.
