East Brunswick High School has added two new courses to its curriculum: Pilates and Liftology. These classes are designed to help students learn physics in a fun and active way, combining science with movement and fitness. The courses let students see how physics works in everyday life while also improving their strength, balance, health, and understanding of exercise within the muscles.

The Pilates course focuses on understanding how the body moves. Students learn about balance, force, and how muscles and bones work together. The exercises show how physics affects posture, stability, and flexibility. By practicing different routines, students see how gravity, tension, and leverage are important in everything the body does. Junior Abhinav Daka said, “It’s really cool to see how something I do at the gym actually connects to physics. I never thought learning about force and balance could be so hands-on and fun.” Pilates helps students connect science to their bodies and understand physics in a way they can feel and experience.

Liftology is a class about the physics of lifting and strength training. Students practice lifts and exercises while learning about motion, energy, and how forces work together. They study ideas like torque and momentum while focusing on proper technique and safety. Liftology turns physics formulas into real-life examples that students can see and feel. This makes learning physics more exciting and practical.

Both courses are designed for all students, no matter their fitness level or experience. They encourage students to try new things, work together, and think critically. Beyond science, the classes also help students build confidence, discipline, and a better awareness of their health.

The new courses show East Brunswick High School’s commitment to creative learning. Mrs. Powers, an English teacher at EBHS who has seen the classes, said, “I love seeing students connect science to their everyday lives. These courses show that learning isn’t just about textbooks — it can happen in movement, in the gym, and in ways that really stick with students.”

Students have reacted positively to the new courses. Many say they understand physics better when they can see it in action. Teachers also notice that students are more confident applying physics to real situations and are more willing to work together and experiment in class.

East Brunswick High School hopes to continue offering these innovative courses and add more programs like them in the future. By combining fitness and science, the school is showing students that learning can be both useful and fun. Pilates and Liftology help students experience physics in real life, giving them skills they can use in and out of school.

These courses offer a new way to learn, showing that science can be active, hands-on, and exciting for everyone.
