East Brunswick High School officially began its basketball season on December 1st, setting high expectations for the players and generating excitement throughout the school. After an intense week of basketball tryouts right before Thanksgiving break, the best have been chosen to represent the school.

The boy’s program, led by head coach Mark Motusesky, enters the season with a strong lineup and many returning players. Returning junior Joseph Olakangil said, “We have players who are committed and work hard everyday. If we maintain that mindset we can go far in the season.”

On the girls’ side, the team returns after a short season last year led by head coach Travis Retzlaff. They are looking to make some serious impact this year. Returning junior varsity player Elise Fong said, “I’m really excited for this season; we have a lot of really good players and I think we may have a shot at a championship.”

Throughout the week, both teams participated in intense, competitive practices. They worked on defensive rotations, shooting, and scrimmages. The girls green and white scrimmage on Saturday, December 6th impressed the fans and coaches with the players’ leadership, physicality, and court awareness.

East Brunswick faces a challenging schedule ahead, highlighted by key rivalry games against Monroe and St. Thomas Aquinas. The Bears are expecting a strong turnout to their home games throughout the winter season.

With disciplined preparation and a stacked roster, EBHS is beginning the season ready for competition and with a goal to win. Bears fans better be ready, because the players definitely are.
