Film-esque: High School Memories Like No Others

When looking back on your years of high school, what is the one event you would remember the most?

East Brunswick High School students answered this exact question, and their answers were bittersweet and reflective. While answers ranged from interesting classes to Prom, there is one thing they all have in common: the mention of friends.

For Anshee, Relay for Life was the most memorable event that the school hosted throughout her high school years.

“[It’s] the best day to bond with friends better… I loved having food, it was fun having activities from clubs and being able to support them and enjoying myself at the same time… And it was for a good cause,” said Senior Anshee Mehta.

Anshee’s, like many other students’ answers, showed that school events highlight  a more general theme about the importance of simply having a friend to enjoy with. School is a way for students to grow with others, and moments begin feeling more meaningful in hindsight.

The most memorable high school tradition for Senior Caitlyn Laury was Asian Night. She said, “I went there for all three years and was able to watch everyone come and go and put on unforgettable performances. I was even able to be involved, myself, by playing with close friends in bands that would extend to other performances. But Asian night is where it all started.”

As graduation approaches, many of our seniors are becoming increasingly aware that in a very short time, all of their experiences they have been through over the past four years will simply become a memory for them. Events that used to feel ordinary are now something to treasure. Even just walking around in the hallways of the school for the last time is a reminder for seniors to live in the moment some more and appreciate the present- and who knows? Maybe it’s a sign for the underclassmen to enjoy life, too.
