Vibe Code
OCTOBER 13, 2025
The world of AI is ever-expanding, and its goal to simplify human life is reaching new heights. “Vibe code”, a term coined by AI researcher Andrej Karpathy in February 2025, describes a workflow where users type ideas in plain text and AI generates and debugs code, focusing on the desired “vibe”. Unlike syntax-heavy coding, vibe code reframes programming through prompting and may signal the future of software development.
Vibe coding lowers the barrier for non-programmers to build programs through natural language rather than years of experience. Tools like Cursor, Replit’s integrated AI, and CoPilot are at the public’s fingertips, streamlining AI among the general public.
EBHS Computer Science teacher, Mr. Cohen, said, “I think vibe coding has uses, especially to automate mundane tasks. I’m afraid too many will call themselves programmers after learning to write AI prompts.”
The future of vibe code in the tech world could entail “zero-code” startups or companies hiring prompt specialists, but for now, it functions best as a hybrid tool.
“In my experience, generating the code is the easiest part. Once something breaks, it's difficult. Usually, the only option is to work with the chatbot that caused this at first. This leads to a cycle of fixing errors the chatbot makes in response to other errors,” said EBHS Robotics Programming President, junior Sohum Bhardwaj. “The alternative, and typically viable option, is learning how to code it yourself.”
Whether it becomes the future of tech or a passing trend, vibe code is already changing our perception of how to write code.
