Significant changes are coming to East Brunswick as the Brunswick Square Mall begins its transformation, focusing now on pickleball. The district has approved redeveloping the mall into a more active, community-centered space. A new indoor facility called “The Picklr” is set to open in mid-2026, featuring 13 professional pickleball courts to the mall on Route 18.

“The Picklr”, one of the fastest-growing indoor pickleball franchises in the country, plans to host leagues, tournaments, lessons, and many other activities for residents and visitors of East Brunswick. The goal is to turn the once-busy shopping area into a popular destination again.

Pickleball has gained popularity at EBHS, where it is included in the physical education curriculum. Sanvi Thellapally, a junior at East Brunswick High School , said, “It’s really cool that they’re reusing the mall for something active instead of just letting it sit empty.” Another junior, Isabella Eisenberger, added, “I used to go to the EB mall when I was little, but I barely go anymore. Turning part of it into a pickleball center makes sense, and might even bring people back.”

East Brunswick’s redevelopment plan aims to bring new energy and excitement to the former mall space. Residents, especially high school students, will soon have a new reason to visit the old mall: to stay active and have fun.
