On February 1st, Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing. The 84- year-old mother was last seen on January 31st at her daughter’s house for dinner. The police were notified after she failed to appear at church the next morning. Once her home was examined they came to the conclusion that she was abducted.

Senior Sarah Kaplan said,“I think that it’s scary that something like that could just happen. I think everyone is doing what they can to help, like the family’s attempts to reach viewers across the nation. I can tell that they are getting closer to bringing her home.” Savannah Guthrie made a video on February 4th encouraging as many people as possible to come forward with information about her abduction. Another student, Senior Destinee Torres, said, “Cases like this make you realize how important it is to pay attention to the little things, and speak up if something feels off.”

On February 10th, the video from Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera was released. That same day the police made an arrest. The suspect, who went by Carlos, claimed he is innocent and claimed that he did not know who Nancy Guthire is. It has not been confirmed by authorities if Carlos is in fact Guthrie’s kidnapper or if he has been released.

The FBI’s award for information leading towards the rescue Nancy Guthire currently sits at $100,000. Luckily, there have been a lot of eyes on this case that will hopefully lead to her return.
