As soon as spring rolls around, the birds begin to chirp, the flowers begin to blossom, and the trees begin to bear fruit. But that creepy, eerie feeling is always present -- AP exams.

Despite spring being a time when life begins to rejoice and grow, students tirelessly began preparing for AP exams by the beginning of April. Senior, Caitlyn Laury said, “In AP Stats, we receive so many mini quizzes and so many homework packets. I understand why they are giving us this much review, but it’s overwhelming with all the other APs I’m taking.” This stress Laury expresses became a common trend throughout the school. Many AP students took more than one AP, making this time of year extremely overwhelming.

In addition to students taking multiple APs in school, many students also self-studied APs alongside the APs they take classes for. Junior David Zhang self-studied AP Psych and APES, both extremely content-based APs. He said, “It was extremely difficult to balance my normal course load with also having to learn almost a year's worth of content in the matter of a month.” The beginning of the year is taken to assimilate into the already difficult classes AP students are taking, which leaves students little time to self-study. However, these students were truly dedicated and put a large amount of effort into preparing for APs.

AP exams can be especially overwhelming for students taking them for the first time. Maxwell Seagull, who took APUSH in school and self-studied AP Bio, said, “Honestly, I’m really stressed out. I still have other classes like English and Chemistry that don’t give any leeway to APs, so it’s a struggle balancing everything. Especially with it being my first year of taking AP exams.” Freshman Hailey Chin, who self-studied AP Bio while being in Bio Honors, said, I find that preparing for the exams is much easier because I have my Bio teacher to go to when I need help. But I can’t lie, it’s a lot of information, and it’s pretty stressful with my other classes.”

Overall, the consensus was clear. Students were stressed out, but they continued to work hard despite it. It is important to appreciate their hard work and make sure they get rest after APs are over.
