Your Honor, I Rest My Case: EBHS Mock Trial Wins County Championship
FEBRUARY 25, 2026, 8:01 A.M.
With their eye set on state championships, New Jersey high school students prepare for another year of competing in Mock Trial. After months of learning objections, writing examinations, and practice trials that lasted hours, the East Brunswick Mock Trial Competition Team has competed against other teams in the Middlesex County Championships. In the first round, EBHS’s Prosecution team competed against JP Stevens High School and won. Competition team members Helen Ayoub (Attorney), Anaya Jhaveri (Attorney), Ethan Lee (Riley Montgomery III), Elizabeth Uyar (Drew Prestige), and Prisha Narain (Officer Armstrong) fought to advance to the next round.
The next day, the team received the news that Woodbridge had dropped out of the competition allowing us to advance to semifinals against Highland Park, EBHS’s Mock Trial rivals. On Thursday, the Defense team went against Highland Park in the semi finals. After a fierce round of competition, they won yet again.
The following Monday, the Defense team went against South Brunswick for the County Finals, a high stakes round for the entire team. At the end of the night, East Brunswick was named the 2026 Middlesex County Champions and all the hard work put in was clearly seen.
When describing the process leading up to the big win, Senior and Mock Trial Co-President Abby Aronow noted that, “Our team at the beginning of the year set a goal to win Middlesex County Tournament. Over the past few months every single member of our team contributed and put in the hard work to reach our goal of County Champs. Countless weekends and meetings after school were spent practicing to give them a chance at States. After winning the county tournament, our season this year has shown that continuous hard work pays off.”
Senior Awaiz Raza, the team's other Co-President, specifically mentioned the hard work of one person, East Brunswick’s Mock Trial Coach, Mr. Mondry. Awaiz says that “I’m just so proud of the team and the growth that everyone has shown throughout the year. Our class had never won counties, so to finally win it in our senior year was special. Of course, none of it would be possible without the guidance and dedication from our coach, Mr. Mondry.” The team is heading towards regionals on the 26th. In the meantime, they plan on working even more to further their skills.
Sophomore Nirav Chitoor mentions that, “Mock Trial is only to get better. With a team of dedicated people and a knowledgeable coach, we’re gearing up for greatness.”
After hundreds of photos, color-coordinated outfits, and thousands of jokes, East Brunswick’s Mock Trial is on the path for greatness.
