Taylor Swift’s 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, left listeners with longing, heartbreak, and hope. Now, over 17 months later, the era-defining pop star is prepared to release her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on October 3rd.
While TTPD had featured sad melodies and powerful, poetic lyrics, The Life of a Showgirl promised a return to the upbeat “1989” city-girl era with a healthy dose of sparkle. Many EBHS students shared their excitement for the new tracks.
“I’m mostly excited for the title track, The Life of a Showgirl (ft. Sabrina Carpenter), because Taylor and Sabrina are an amazing duo…they will be perfectly harmonized,” said EBHS Sophomore Zacch Prejula-Gooditis.
Junior Isabella Eisenberger said, “I don’t think her album will be better than most of her other albums because she wrote it on the Eras Tour. She had a lot going on then, and it’s very different from her usual aesthetic. But I’m still so excited!”
In addition to the album, Swift announced The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, a short-run film event tied to the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia.”The film, which included behind-the-scenes footage, ran in theaters from October 3rd to October 5th.
Whether students were dedicated Swifties or casual listeners, Taylor Swift's influence in both music and culture is recognized at EBHS. With excitement building across the student body, many have planned to stream the album the moment it dropped—and predicted that Spotify would feel the rush.
