Since its premiere in 2011, The Voice has risen to the top of NBC’s most-watched singing competitions. It showcases the singing talents of many aspiring singers, both young and old, and helps advance the careers of those who audition for the show. Many go on the stage of The Voice and emerge as winners, leaving with valuable knowledge about the professional world that will benefit them for the rest of their careers. Appearing on a popular show can be a big break for aspiring singers, launching their careers with record deals and fame. This is why many artists come here to audition, hoping to be accepted by the coaches.

Season 28 of The Voice premiered on September 22, 2025. Since then, blind auditions have aired, and the contestants have chosen their coaches. Now, the training and the competition will begin. On the last episode of the blind auditions, Vinya Chhabra, a Sophomore at East Brunswick High School, auditioned on The Voice and pulled three chair turns for her performance of the song “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette, securing her spot to continue performing. She wanted to audition because it had been a dream of hers since she was a 2nd grader in elementary school. “Every singer should be inspired to do it,” she said. “There's no better platform than The Voice to improve skills.”

Vinya’s audition process began last year when she attended an open-call audition to try out for the show. Throughout this time, she had to perform multiple times and showcase her talent to qualify for the official auditions, which required an additional level of discipline and determination that ultimately allowed Vinya to succeed and leave a lasting impression on the judges.

Before her official audition on the show, Vinya said she was very nervous and was trying to get into a mindset that would essentially showcase her confidence. She was focused and determined to get at least one chair turn. “I didn’t even talk to my mom,” she said, focusing on her performance and impressing the judges. Her goal was to get at least one chair turn, so when three coaches turned, she said she felt excited and “over the moon.” She said she couldn’t believe an opportunity like this happened to her, and she’s still processing this huge achievement in her music career.

Dr. Edward Bucior, EBHS principal, said, “We are all incredibly proud of Vinya. For someone her age to perform with such maturity, confidence, power, and poise on a national stage was crazy, in a good way! She represented our East Brunswick community extremely well and we could not be more proud that she is a student here!”

The Voice has given a platform for many aspiring artists, and one is blooming right now. Vinya Chhabra has definitely made her name known to the world.
