After the gravity-defying success of the first film, Wicked, audiences have been counting down the days to its sequel, Wicked: For Good. The film’s emotional depth and vulnerability have resonated with people around the world, drawing in new fans while uniting many longtime fans of the Broadway musical under this reimagined version. Wicked did more than just bring the beloved classic to the screen; it introduced a fresh and new perspective from director Jon M. EBHS sophomore Makayla Young commented, “I can’t wait to see Wicked: For Good! The first one did a really great job at telling the stories of Elphaba and Glinda, and even though I know what happens, I’m still eager to see how they’re going to portray it and just very excited to see all the amazing visuals and storyline and vocals that the first movie gave.”
Wicked has gone above and beyond to give audiences that experience where they can feel these characters exploring these complex personal journeys, while also seeing a spectacle that visually engages viewers in ways the stage production cannot. With Elphaba exiled in the forest and Glinda basking in popularity in the Emerald City, the two girls are brought back together by chance or fate.
Senior Kaavya Shah said, “The makeup and costuming for the Tin Man and Scarecrow were amazing. Even though Elphaba didn’t act the way I expected in this movie, I think it strengthened her bond with Glinda. No matter how the world perceives the other, they always know each other’s hearts and come back to one another.”
All of these creative inputs form a captivating movie for people to get immersed in. As the stories of Elphaba and Glinda advance into finding their own identities and places within society, the audience is right alongside them, eagerly waiting to find out where the brick road leads.
