On March 2nd, Paris Fashion week began, marking one of the most influential events in the global fashion industry. Designers showcase their newest collections  on runway shows in Paris, France. Attracting models, celebrities, and media conglomerates, Paris is widely considered the most prestigious of  the ‘Big Four’ fashion weeks, which also include New York, London, and Milan. Chanel, Dior, and Louis Vuitton showcase their latest fashion statements here, shaping trends that ripple across the world.

This year’s fashion week highlighted a stark juxtaposition of trends, with both theatrical excess and minimalism being displayed. While last year’s “quiet luxury” remained prevalent, designers experimented with textured fabrics, and statement colors like deep purples. American models, Alex Consani and Anok Yai played a key role in displaying these opposing aesthetics. Consani’s looks displayed her youthful, Gen-Z sensability, while Yai’s wore structured, elevated pieces reinforcing her timeless sophistication.

“I feel like a lot of what people wear starts from events like Paris Fashion Week, even if they don’t realize it. You’ll see certain colors or styles show up on social media, and then a few months later everyone’s wearing something similar,” said Junior Abigail Effendi.

This year’s Paris Fashion Week had both creativity and cultural influence. At Valentino’s show in Rome, 1980s-inspired designs featured dramatic silhouettes, crystal-embellished gowns, and vibrant colors, reflecting a shift toward more expressive fashion. Miu Miu transformed its runway into a forest-like setting, emphasizing natural textures and simplicity, while Balenciaga’s collection explored themes of light and darkness through moody tones and sculptural designs.

“I thought it was interesting how some designers reused materials or focused on fabrics that last longer instead of just fast fashion. Like with the more natural fabrics and simpler designs at Miu Miu, it felt more wearable and less wasteful,” said Junior Ananya Gupta.

Paris Fashion Week is more than a series of runway shows. It influences people and creates a lasting impact of fashion on everyday life.
