Nearly a decade after the original Zootopia fascinated audiences all around the world, Disney’s Zootopia 2 revisits the titular city where predators and prey coexist in a society that reflects the complexity of our own. The sequel includes the same mixture of humor and adventure that fans have come to expect. It faces the challenge of meeting the expectations of the original film, but so far, it seems that people have been united, once again, by the film’s rich and intricate world.
The film follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they take on an unexpected investigation that spans across Zootopia’s diverse districts. The story explores the tension between the responsibility one holds while making the characters question how far they will go for justice without giving up and staying silent. It even acknowledges that relationships aren’t always perfect, and disagreements will arise as bonds go stronger. However, the movie makes it clear that there is always a way to push through these challenges.
The returning voice actors have done nothing but a stellar job. Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays Judy, and Jason Bateman, who plays Nick, demonstrate the same chemistry and excitement that they originally brought to life in the first movie. New characters have been added, but the focus always remains the duo, with both their snarky and emotional dialogues.
The public response to Zootopia 2 has been relatively positive. Many fans appreciate its emphasis on relevant and pressing topics in this day and age, specifically delving into issues such as cultural erasure and displacement.
Junior Isabella Eisenberger noted that, “The message of Zootopia 2 was very clear and should be recognized by the movie’s audience. This movie will have a great impact on many.”
On the other hand, many fans on social media have been joking about the fashion choices seen in the movie. Junior Sahana Ramkumar said, “On TikTok, people have been bashing Judy Hopps for her red carpet look in the movie…people are saying her dress was hideous, her hairstyle was lazy…and in all honesty, I agree.” Her comment highlights how discussions of the movie extend beyond the cultural aspects, focusing even on the visual appeal. Social media, as always, tends to have many differing opinions.
For students at East Brunswick High School, Zootopia 2 offers much more than just entertainment. Its message delivers important warnings and reminders that respect and understanding is essential for succeeding in life and as an individual. EBHS students, similar to Judy Hopps, navigate challenges in hopes of doing what is right. Sometimes they stumble, and sometimes they succeed, but each experience contributes to personal growth.
Ultimately, Zootopia 2 reaffirms the power of perseverance and empathy for all – these values resonating with both the citizens of Zootopia and through the halls of EBHS.
